Akoma

Akoma’s mission is to cultivate a global learning community for Black and Afro-Indigenous girls, promoting educational justice for marginalized communities. They achieve this through creative initiatives such as zines, digital learning opportunities, and our annual pop-up school.

Their vision is to create a world where Black girls are confident and empowered to make informed choices, and embrace their identities as leaders and change-makers within their communities. By making decisions grounded in self-actualization and intrinsic values, these young women can cultivate joy, prosperity, and a positive impact on the lives of others.

Through their digital community, girls from around the world can connect, share experiences, and promote Black unity, while exploring the intersections of their identities, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to navigate their unique challenges.

By taking over a shared space, and leading multiple photography, engineering, design technology, fine art, public speaking, writing and music workshops, our students often showcase their learning by leading their own open exhibition to community members.
