Living While Black: A Space for Healing & Awareness for Black & Global Majority Peoples
Racial trauma is often unseen but deeply felt. Whether through overt discrimination or daily microaggressions, the impact of racism weaves into our bodies, shaping our experiences in ways we may not always recognise.
On February 20, 2025, from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM, we gathered for the first Living While Black session—a space for cultivating somatic awareness, resilience, and healing. Led by The Phoenix Way in partnership with Somatic Practitioner Rowan Carr , the session introduced slow, intentional practices to help participants connect with their bodies and breath.
For many, the experience was more powerful than expected:
“I came in so stressed, but left relaxed
“It exceeded my expectations—I didn’t expect to learn that I can create change through working with my body in this way.”
“Yes, this session exceeded my expectations! I want to practice exercises like this more with others in our community, and we did that.”
These sessions are about Somatic Awareness Cultivation—a practice of deep listening to the body. Some sessions will be still; others may invite gentle movement, always with choice at the centre.
These sessions are open to all Phoenix Way Funded grantees and related partners.
