The Art of Listening | Graphic Harvesting at the TPW Community Connect

On December 11, 2025, The Phoenix Way Community Connect event hosted an exciting 2 Day Graphic Harvesting Masterclass, in Leeds. This was the second instalment of an introductory graphic harvest workshop put on in December 2023, where The Phoenix Way regional leads put forward people interested in graphic harvesting.

Graphic harvesting is becoming popular in workplaces and events as a creative way to capture complex ideas in an engaging and easy-to-understand format.

This masterclass brought together harvesters and facilitators to create visual records of the Community Connect Events key moments and discussions. Day 1 was centered around gathering information, which included taking visual and written notes throughout the event. Day 2 was all about pulling those ideas together to create their visual final harvests.

“Harvesting via community connect was super necessary and really helpful! It helped us put everything we learnt into practice and be more creative in real situations.”- Jaeda

What is Graphic Harvesting?

Graphic harvesting is a way of visually recording ideas, discussions, and themes from an event using drawings, symbols, and words. It helps make information clearer, more engaging, and easier to remember. Organisations find this method useful because it brings ideas together, encourages participation, and provides a shared visual summary that people can refer to later.

The Masterclass Experience

Experienced facilitators Drew Sinclair and Chadney Wassmer led the session, working with eight trainees who had different levels of experience. They explored artistic techniques, learning how to combine notetaking with creativity to create meaningful visual summaries.

The trainees focused on organising their illustrations to highlight key details such as the event’s date, location, main topics, and important takeaways.

During the masterclass, the group noticed that each person had a unique style. Some created detailed, information-packed visuals, while others took a simpler, more open approach. The facilitators encouraged a balance between clarity and creativity to ensure the final visuals effectively captured the essence of the event.
