Mother & Child Welfare Organisation [MACWO]

Mother & Child Welfare Organisation [MACWO] is a London-based charity set up to provide support for vulnerable mothers and young people across our capital. Their work is centered on delivering direct community-level support, to the people who need it most.

MACWO helps families access appropriate advice and mediation services, connecting them to legal advice where necessary. They utilise their network to connect people with local organisations and provide volunteer support throughout the advice and mediation journey.

Since 2010, MACWO has supported the rehabilitation of people leaving prison. They work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds to reduce re-offending by addressing complex barriers that discourage positive change. The organisation implements a prison visiting programme to identify those needing rehabilitation support and facilitates connections between offenders, their families, and MACWO teams.

Recognising that challenges outside the classroom affect a child’s learning and development, MACWO works with families to add sustainable, positive value to both the family and child. They support children to gain the most from their education by helping families address issues such as housing, financial concerns, and interactions with council or local authority services, while also providing pastoral support in schools.

MACWO works across communities in London to advocate for mental health awareness. They support individuals experiencing overwhelming mental health problems that affect their daily lives, ensuring everyone has access to the care and services they need. MACWO believes that all individuals with mental health challenges should be treated fairly, positively, and with respect.

MACWO aims to engage adults and young people with high-quality education and employment-focused skills training. Partnering with specialist groups and organisations, they offer a broad range of courses, workshops, and development opportunities—from digital inclusion to learning English as a Second Language (ESOL). Their goal is to equip more black and ethnic minority (BAME) individuals with the skills, experience, and certification needed to access more opportunities.

MACWO focuses on supporting and developing the youth communities across London, particularly among BAME groups. They recognise the challenges faced by young people, including serious youth violence, mental health issues, wellbeing challenges, extremism, and the influence of gangs and drugs. Through various programmes, MACWO provides advocacy, education, and tangible solutions. Their youth initiatives aim to build character, give young people a voice, and offer a platform for expressing their skills and talents, positively influencing the next generation.

MACWO continues to work within the community, ensuring that families, ex-offenders, students, individuals facing mental health challenges, and young people receive the support they need through advice, mediation, rehabilitation, education, and outreach programmes.

Our services are based on family values that support mothers, providing them with advice, skills and access to local authority services.
