The Peel Project CIC
The Peel Project is a community and youth organisation in Hull, founded in response to the tragic murder of a local teenager, Abdullah Ballouchi, in December 2020. His death highlighted issues of deprivation and disengagement within Hull’s Central Ward, exacerbated by cuts in youth and community engagement.
The organisation emerged as a response to these challenges, aiming to address social isolation, crime prevention, and community development.. Led by individuals with lived experiences from diverse ethnic backgrounds, the organisation provides free-to-access grassroots activities, educational workshops, and events throughout the year.
The mission of The Peel Project is to create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment where every individual feels valued and empowered. Its vision is to promote and celebrate meaningful inclusion of people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in all aspects of civic life within Hull.
The Peel Project is committed to five core social outcomes:
Crime and anti-social behaviour reduction
Sports participation
Fostering community involvement
Improving health and wellbeing
Enhancing education and employability
The Peel Project operates through a community-led and public sector-enabled approach, ensuring accessibility and relevance in its work. By addressing local challenges and empowering individuals, the organisation continues to contribute to a stronger and more connected community in Hull.
“Learning through play is at the core of our philosophy. We believe in providing a stimulating environment for children and adults alike, where active learning and fun go hand in hand.”
