Saalik Youth Project
Saalik Youth Project is based in Fir Vale, Sheffield, with activities for young people delivered in and around Fir Vale Youth Centre.
Post-Covid, the project leader Imran Ali set about developing the Saalik Youth Leadership Programme to address issues arising from the pandemic and lockdowns including isolation, lack of social interaction, poor physical and mental health, and limited opportunities for personal development.
Saalik Youth Project is a grassroots youth project driven by a vibrant community of young minds with a passion to create positive change in disadvantaged areas of Sheffield through sports activities, a youth club, workshops, education, and trips. The project comprises around 250 dedicated individuals eager to make a difference. It is a hub of creativity, collaboration, and compassion, united by a shared goal to initiate impactful projects that address pressing issues, uplift communities, and foster empowerment. The project cultivates a space where each member’s voice is heard and valued, serving young people aged 6 to 25.
Fir Vale is a densely populated, deprived area with a close-knit Asian community. Imran, as a widely trusted adult and long-time youth worker and mentor, has effectively engaged and consulted both parents and young people to identify post-Covid support needs.
“I’m happy to say that the majority of our young volunteers have gone on to do really well for themselves,
and I know that at the very least, all of them had a great time and have really fond memories from here”
